This week’s financial fitness steps are all about protecting your income if you were unable to work through job loss, ill health or disability.

  • Your first activity is to think about who or what you need to protect most. This might be providing for your children, covering your mortgage payments, or simply your earnings.

  • Now check what protection you might already have. For example, if you’re employed or have a mortgage you might have a benefits package that includes life insurance or income protection for a set period if you can’t work due to illness or injury.

  • Once you’ve completed these two steps you can work out what protection insurance is right for you, get it in place and ticked off the list. Remember to shop around first.

    Now you can sleep easy, knowing you and your family are covered.
